Nursery Mealtimes
Our Nursery kitchen has been recently extended and completely re-fitted with quality commercial kitchen equipment which ensures the highest possible standards during food preparation and cooking. We have strict health and safety procedures and our nursery kitchen is regularly inspected by the Local Authority to ensure we are meeting standards and adhering to the policies and procedures given.
Our experienced nursery cook Vanessa, and her kitchen assistant Bonita, are highly qualified in all aspects of food preparation and food safety and have attended relevant training courses in ‘Food Hygiene', ‘Healthier Food and Special Diets' (Level 2 Award) and ‘Food Safety and Catering'.
Meals include a selection of cereals, wholemeal toast with jams and fresh fruit for breakfast (served at approx 9.00a.m), a freshly cooked hot main course with dessert at lunch time (served at approx 11.30a.m. to 12.00 noon) and an afternoon snack of wholemeal sandwiches, cheese, fresh fruit, crumpets, filled pitta breads etc. (served at approx 15.30p.m). Individual children's dietary needs can be catered for and a vegetarian option is always available if required. Milk, water or diluted sugar free juice is available to children throughout the day.
We believe that meal times should be happy, social times where children learn good table manners and develop an understanding of the importance of healthy eating. Staff members sit with the children during meal times and encourage children to develop independence through making choices, serving their own food and drink and feeding themselves. Our menu is varied to encourage children to try different foods and to broaden their tastes (parents are often amazed at what their ‘fussy eaters’ will eat when in the company of their peers at nursery!). Our menus are on a four week rotation and are displayed outside our nursery kitchen, on our parents’ notice board and in each of our six care rooms.
Vanessa and Bonita provide children with healthy, nutritious, appetising meals. Every meal is cooked on site, using the freshest ingredients, including fresh fruit and vegetables.

Brambly Hedge Day Nursery Castleford is near Pontefract, Methley and Normanton. The nursery is within easy reach of the M1 and Junction 31 of the M62 (5 minutes away) and A1 networks.
